Vision Research in Demokritos
-Dimitrios Kosmopoulos
Abstract: Goal of the speech is the presentation of recent work in the field of computer and robot vision in Computational Intelligence Lab in the National Center of Scientific Research "Demokritos". This work includes the tracking of moving targets under occlusions, behavior understanding of humans in indoor environments and the automated production of personalized videos in entertainment parks.
Furthermore, newly introduced techniques for robust classification of time series will be presented. For this purpose a new Hidden Markov Model employing an observation model of Student-t mixture will be presented as well as application results in gesture recognition, and biomedical applications (EEG, fMRI). The last part of the presentation will be about recently published techniques for modeling objects using 3D data (e.g. from laser scanners) with application in robotic "bin picking" applications. The research that will presented has been performed in the framework of several EU and national projects (SCOVIS, POLYMNIA, SemVeillance, PENED).
Biography: Dimitrios Kosmopoulos received the BSc in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 1997 from the National Technical University of Athens and the PhD degree in 2002 from the same institution. He has worked as technical coordinator in many research and industrial projects in the fields of computer vision, multimedia analysis and robotics. Before joining NCSR "Demokritos" as a Research Scientist, he was employed in National Technical University of Athens and inos Automations software (Germany). He is a visiting Professor in the Technical Educational Institute of Athens and was a Lecturer in the University of Peloponnese.
