NSF Project Director, Guru Parulkar, Speaks Oct. 18 on Major Research
To Create New Internet Architectures and Distributed Systems

Dr. Guru Parulkar

Dr. Guru Parulkar, a program director in the National Science Foundation's Computer and Network Systems division, will speak at UTA as a CSE Distinguished Lecturer on Wednesday, Oct. 18. The open lecture will be held in the Rady Room in Nedderman Hall at 2:30 p.m., with a reception and refreshments preceding it at 2 p.m..

Dr. Parulkar is driving the technical direction of the Global Environment for Networking Innovations, or GENI, initiative, which is aimed at creating the future Internet, with help from the broader research community. His lecture will be on the GENI initiative and its work to create new Internet architectures and distributed systems, with discussion also on how researchers can participate.

Prior to joining NSF, Dr. Parulkar spent several years in the Silicon Valley involved in high-tech startups. Among his multiple ventures, he co-founded Growth Networks and served as its CTO and director. Growth Networks was acquired by Cisco Systems.

He is a former professor of computer science at Washington University and served as director of its Applied Research Laboratory and led large multi-investigator systems projects in gigabit networking, next generation Internet, multimedia systems and networking, active networking, and network measurement and visualization. He received his Ph.D. in computer science from the University of Delaware in 1987.
