The Department of Computer Science and Engineering at UTA joins Louisiana State University in hosting on the UTA campus Nov. 3-4 the 2006 ACM South Central USA Programming Contest.
The competition is part of the Association for Computing Machinery International Collegiate
Programming Contest, which is sponsored by IBM. Winning teams from around the world, culled
from more than 5,000 participating teams in more than 80 countries, will compete in Tokyo in
March 2007 for the top spot, which carries with it prizes, scholarships and significant
prestige.
UTA will host 18 teams for the regional competition, which draws college and university
students from across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana and part of New Mexico. LSU, Baylor University,
Texas Tech University, and East Central University are also co-hosting part of the regional
competition on their campuses.
The 31-year-old competition is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious programming contest in
the world. The international competition fosters creativity, teamwork, and innovation in
building new software programs and challenges students to solve real-world programming problems.
