CSE Receives $1.7 million in Research Funding
CSE has received $1.7 million in research grants so far in 2005-2006. The awards include $602,284 for
research on integrated cognitive systems from the Institute for the Study of Learning and Expertise,
$386,553 from TxDOT, $275,000 from the NSF to develop new applications integrating stream and event processing
and $100,000 for a security framework research project funded by the Texas Advanced Research Program.

A team of UTA CSE students was among the nation's top 15 university teams who competed in
Microsoft's 2006 Imagine Cup national finals in May. The finalists beat out 300 university teams

Dr. Hao Che was awarded a $64,200 research grant from NSF
Assistant Professor Hao Che was awarded a $64,200 research grant from the National Science Foundation.
The project is titled "Collaborative Research: NeTS-NBD: An Integrated Solution to Provide QoS, Traffic Engineering,
and Fault Tolerance in an Overlay Networking Environment". The one-year project is a collaborative effort with the
University of Pennsylvania.
UTA ACM Student Chapter Hosts National Student Conference March 3-4
UTA's ACM chapter is hosting the National ACM Student Conference at UTA March 3-4.

High school students from Arlington, Dallas and DeSoto independent school districts and other
schools participated in RoPro 2006, an annual robot programming contest for high school students

Students from DFW-area high schools will face off Saturday, Feb. 4, at the University of
Texas at Arlington to see whose robot can navigate through a maze without direct control or find
an object using vision and touch.
